Implementation

How do you ensure you have a successful implementation? The below list will give you pointers of the things you SHOULD consider:

  • Ensure you have the skills and team in place to deliver your new system
  • Consider the “Change” implications. They are often significant and many projects fail due to a lack of focus on the change itself with the impacted parties
  • Consider the process implications. Process changes are often significant and need to be suitably adopted
  • Do you need an implementation partner? If so, how will you select them? Rarely will an organisation have the expertise within it to delivery a new technology by itself
    • Consider a mix
      • Technical Partner (Often the internal IT Function)
      • Implementation Partner (Expert in implementing the system of choice
      • Internal support team. Closely involved with the above two teams and will be critical in the post delivery and ongoing support phases
  • Do not fall into the trap of letting the Technical partner implement the system in isolation. The operationally impacted functions SHOULD be closely involved and onboard. Ultimately, they will determine the success of the implementation.
